About Dankaur

Dankaur is a beautiful town that belongs to the Gautam Buddha Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh. It is a Nagar Panchayat. This beautiful town resides very close to the banks of River Yamuna. The town is otherwise called as Dronacharya Nagar. Hindi is the most spoken language in the town and the population constitutes of mostly Hindus and Muslims. Agriculture is the main occupation of the people here. Festivals are celebrated in a very grand scale in the town.

Brief History of Dankaur

The city Dankaur is of historic importance as its name is said to be derived from the name of great saint, Dronacharya. The town is also called as Dronkaur. At the time of Mahabharata it is believed that saint Dronacharya taught the skill of archery to Kauravas and Pandavas in Dankaur but he refused to teach the same skill to Eklavya since he hailed from a fishermen family. But Eklavya considered saint Dronacharya as his guru and made a stone statue of Dronacharya and learned the skill in the presence of the stone statue. Even now the stone statue of saint Dronacharya is preserved at the ancient temple of Dronacharya.

Geography of Dankaur

Dankaur is elevated at a height of 194 meters above sea level which is about 636 feet. The town has coordinates of about 28.35° North latitude and 77.55° East longitude. Dankaur is located at a distance of 55 km east from the national capital Delhi and at a distance of 3 km from the district headquarters Noida. The town is bounded by Noida Tehsil in the west, Greater Noida Tehsil in the North, Sikandrabad Tehsil in the East and Dadri Tehsil in the North. The nearby villages of Dankaur are Noida, Atta Gujran, Kanarsi, Mohammadpur Gurjar and Dadupur Dankaur. The nearest cities from Dankaur are Greater Noida, Sikandrabad, Dadri and Faridabad. The town is sited very close to the border of its district Gautam Buddha Nagar that makes it very close to its adjacent district Bulandshahr. The town has loam and sandy soil which makes it fit to cultivate chief crops like wheat, sugarcane and rice.

Demography

As per 2011 census the town has a total population of about 13,520 which has nearly 54% of men and 46% of female. The density of population is 853.5 inch per sq km in an area of 15.84 sq km. The town has an average literacy rate of nearly 57% which is considered lower than the national average literacy rate of 59.5%. In Dankaur, the male literacy rate is about 67% and the female literacy rate of about 47%. Nearly 16% of the total population is less than the age of 6.

The town operates under the Meerut division of administration. Gautam Buddha Nagar is divided in to three tehsils namely Sadar, Jewar and Dadri. Each of these tehsils are sub-divided into administrative blocks for administration convenience. The Dankaur block come under the Sadar tehsil of the district. The district magistrate is the overall in charge of the district. The current district magistrate is A V Rajamouli. The current MP of the district is Surendra Singh Nagar. The nagar palika forms the local self-government in the town.

The closest major railway station is the Faridabad railway station at a distance of 27 km from Dankaur. The other nearby railway stations is the Dankaur railway station at 11 km and Ajaibpur railway station at 16 km. The Indira Gandhi international airport is the closest airport from the town located at a distance of 55 km from the town.
